The Diocese of Grand Island become a place where the model and encouragement of vocations is a regular occurrence through our religious and lay faithful. We envision our young people being given every opportunity to ask where God may be calling them because of an encounter with Jesus Christ and through faithful Catholics. We envision every Catholic home as a foundation for vocational discernment, supported by Catholic schools and religious education programs.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Diocese of Grand Island Office for Vocations exists to encourage and inspire young people to consider the priesthood and religious life. We do this by igniting a culture of vocations in the clergy, religious, and lay faithful through the following pillars.
PRAYER - EDUCATION - DISCERNMENT - INVITATION
strategic plan (2025-2030)
a culture of prayer
Supporting parishes and schools in their effort to create a space and environment for an encounter with God and His calling. Encouraging every member of the body of Christ to seek the Lord through prayer and asking Him to inspire young people to embrace their true vocation.
“Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or to the consecrated life, there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community. Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit”. - Pope Francis

I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect” – Romans 12:1-2
I, therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.
– Ephesians 4:1-6
